The Medical College Admission Test, commonly called MCAT, is a standardized exam used by medical schools across North America to assess students for admission into medical school. The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) conducts this exam several times a year, and scores will be made public after completion. We'll explore when MCAT exams take place and when results become available.

When is the MCAT Offered?

The MCAT occurs multiple times yearly, with test dates available in January, March, April, May, June, July, August, and September. Testing periods can differ slightly from year to year; they should always be announced in advance by AAMC. It is wise for students to be mindful that registration deadlines for each test date typically fall a month ahead.

When Will MCAT Scores Be Released?

MCAT scores typically appear approximately one-month post-test date, though this timeline may differ depending on when they were taken; January tests typically receive their scores in late February/early March, while scores from August and September takers can take up to eight weeks before receiving them.

As important as it is that scores are released relatively rapidly, they take some time to be reported to medical schools. The AAMC typically reports scores two weeks post-release to medical schools, so applicants should remember this timeline when planning their medical school applications.

Conclusion

The MCAT is an essential examination for students hoping to pursue medical school in either the US or Canada, usually administered numerous times each year between January and September, with scores being released approximately one-month post-test date and reported back two weeks post-score release. Students planning to take the exam should remember these timelines when planning ahead for this test.
